Mise en Place: Gluten Free is the brain child of Sharon B.
I have been a lifelong culinary enthusiast…from long before the word ‘foodie’ became a thing. I’m serious. Baking, cooking and sharing culture through food is a passion! Mise en place is a French phrase specific to the preparation of ingredients for cooking, but it works well as a practice for orgainzing life “putting everything in its place” to add richness to each day - regardless of challenges like food allergies and dietary restrictions.
Over the course of my adult life, I have consistently sought to learn more about food and culture. I’ve learned from friends, from jobs and from day courses. After being diagnosed with non-coeliac gluten intolerance in 2011, I had to seriously recalibrate my cooking, re-learn so much and find new inspiration in the kitchen. I looked for more books, more courses and cooking demonstrations; searched out the naturally gluten-free foods of other countries. I even went so far as to get certification from what was previously known as the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York for their abbreviated Gluten-Free Intensive Course, and went all the way to South Korea to experience exceptional gluten-free, vegan Buddhist temple food at a Michelin-starred Buddhist temple restaurant.
I served on the board of the Gluten Intolerance Group of Greater Dallas chapter for over 5 years, having served 2.5 of those years as president where I arranged lectures from knowledgeable health professionals for the group, organized member events and discussions, as well as cooking lessons, demonstrations and pot lucks.
I’ve also been a travel enthusiast and francophile since my teen years. The two years I spent as a resident of Le Havre, France etched Normandy on my heart as my home away from home and inspired a love of the area that I am passionate about sharing with others.
2021 began the availability of a small range of gluten-free baked goods by Sharon B. Gluten-Free. These are products I have been perfecting over some time and feel passionate about sharing. They are cookies, bread, and cakes with excellent texture and complex flavors. See the menu pages for the details.
